Where is Coromandel?

Driving
Creek Pottery and Railway
New Zealand's only narrow gauge mountain railway. Replanted New Zealand Native Forest.
Massive environmental and civil engineering features. Trains now run to summit terminus
after 20 years of construction. Unique owner-designed and built rolling stock.
Gardens
Four tranquil local gardens offer a unique blend of native and exotic plants. List
available from the Coromandel Information Centre (And here too at some stage)
Heritage Trail
Self guided walking trail to places of interest in the Coromandel township, showing
history, culture, industry and environment.
Craft Trail
Guide to Coromandel's crafts people. A "how to find" list of workshops, shops
and galleries. See over two dozen international crafts people working in their own
premises.
Colville Town
In early days, Colville was the centre of the Kauri milling industry. Today, it is a quiet
country town serving the arts and crafts and farming communities.
Granite Quarry Wharf
Located at Paritu, north of Colville. This was the second wharf built to service the scows
that came across from Auckland to collect the Coromandel Granite.
Whangapoua Beach
From the white sand and surf of this beach, take the 30 minute walk to Wainuiototo Bay
(New Chums Beach), one of the Peninsula's most beautiful beaches.
Coromandel Communities
These have evolved from the 1960's and 70's communes and now are activity centres of
farming, education or arts and crafts. Visits can be arranged through the Coromandel
Information Centre.
